In the first months of the pandemic and quarantine in Peru, the situation was really tough for the country. The health infrastructure was not prepared to serve so many people in hospitals and the necessary resources were not available to deal with the large number of COVID-19 cases.
By August, when it was already clear that the situation could not return to normal and that the event that we originally thought of as an opportunity to connect the X-Wing communities of the world in our capital, the LIMA OPEN 2020 took a turn. We transformed the tournament into an online event, but at the same time reality made us realize that we should do it for charitable purposes.
Initially, we planned to raise funds to support those affected by the pandemic and in need of oxygen for treatment. It was really a delicate situation for many families, fortunately as the pandemic progressed, the state managed to acquire the resource for patients and it was no longer scarce. It was important for this to happen, because our fundraiser was planned for the end of the year and, happily, access to oxygen is now easier for patients.
That’s when we found a vital way to channel support to those most in need. When the pandemic hit the country, the most vulnerable people were on the streets. People who had lost their jobs, their homes and were at the mercy of COVID-19. The Lima Charity received the support of the municipality to allocate a piece of land to house people who lived on the street and protect them from the coronavirus.

La Casa de Todos is a project to build a shelter for 120 people (men, women and children) who live on the streets and need support to survive the pandemic, in addition to finding help to rebuild their lives.
During all this time they have cared for those affected, they have provided shelter and medical care, detection of contagion. All this work is done thanks to donations because they do not receive support from the state of Peru.
Their goal is to raise $ 900,000 to build a permanent shelter for the homeless in need of care. They are at 30% of the goal and continue to shelter homeless people in the land temporarily provided by the Municipality of Lima.
The entire proceeds of the event will be used to help this organization to achieve the construction of the shelter, with this they will be able to provide a home and protection to people in need against the threat of COVID-19.
Modern and adequate facilities
The proposal is made with the latest technology modular architecture, which allowed it to be operational in 60 days. The Casa de Todos facilities will have two pavilions of rooms, kitchen, dining room, administrative offices, mental health department, sports area, recreation area, children’s area, laundry, storage, job training workshops, health services, among others.
